It's Kosher? Who Knew!

It's Kosher? Who Knew!

Many people travel to Miami Beach for fun in the sun, relaxation, & world renowned nightlife. Miami has a plethora of delights to partake in. With such events as the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, Miami is fast becoming a destination for foodies as well. Excellent cuisine options are not hard to come by in the Miami area with culinary delights such as swanky Barton G., trendy Prime 112, chic Bond Street, and classic Smith & Wolensky.

However, as fantastic as these restaurants sound, they do not fit the needs of every Miami traveler and resident. As confounding as that may sound, there are scores of people with discerning palates that have no interest for the likes of DeVito's or The Forge.

For centuries Jewish people have had the commandment to keep Kosher, only eating foods that conform to Jewish dietary laws. Some also believe that it is a holy commandment for Jewish people the world over to flock to Miami Beach (last time I checked, it was not). In order to feed the large number of people who do in fact keep strict Kosher,

Miami has responded in the last few years with a few surprisingly appealing, trendy, and delicious culinary options. As options for eating out, Jewish patrons had very little decision making throughout much of the last 20 years; flip a coin - pizza or falafel. However, over the last 4-5 years the kosher scene has undergone a Miami style facelift. Cine Citta (Dairy, Fish) in Surf Side is the kosher answer to a trendy French Bistro with modern decor and a sophisticated but uncomplicated menu. With tables set up outside and a decent size, though not palatial, sized dining room, a hint of intimacy juxtapose with the bustle of the crowd.

As a consistent patron of Cine Citta, I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal. From the extensive variety of fish, to the brick oven style pizza, and notable wine selection, everything on the menu is a palate pleaser. At China Bistro (Meat) in the Aventura Waterways, one can find the Kosher version of P.F. Chang's.

Decent portions of American Chinese & Japanese food such as Chicken with Black bean Sauce, Special Fried Rice, and Volcano Sushi Roll never disappoint. An upscale atmosphere with seating inside as well as outside(surrounding a large water fountain) add to the delightful ambiance and delicious treats. At Prime 18 (Meat), also located in the Aventura Waterways, a carnivores dream can come true at this excellent steakhouse. Finely prepared and well seasoned cuts can be devoured over an extensive selection of wines.

Steaks ranging from the classic Delmonico, to the Hangar, to the supreme (in my opinion) Center Cut, quench the craving for great meat in a low-key yet upscale atmosphere. Kosher restaurants have come a long way in the last few years, and lucky for us they have made the leap from drab to dynamite in a respectable amount of time. With these delightful options on your itinerary the kosher eater now has a list of must-eats to add to their to-do list!
